Got up this morning and after breakfast met Hang our tour guide for an ox cart ride through the countryside. It was so cool to see the small villages, shops, markets, and see how the average people live. We rode along in the carts through the village greeting the residents and waving. No bike riding today as we changed our itinerary to add in another cool experience. Once we finished with the ox carts we walked around the grounds of a local pagoda where we saw monks living and working. Along our route we stopped in a park where we watched huge fruit bats hanging in the trees. Then we stopped at a fancy grocery store that was very close to a Sobeys back home. Very clean, well stocked, with fresh bakery, meat and produce along with all canned and packaged foods. WELL!!!! Can you believe as we walked around the store we see a little dog that looked so much like Swiffer it almost made me cry. He was so cute. I took pics and got to pet him and I showed the owners a pic of Swiffer. They could hardly believe it. It was pretty sweet. Picked up some ready mixed pina coladas. After looking around the market we enjoyed lunch at a typical Cambodian restaurant. Delicious. Food in Cambodia has been much better than the Vietnamese cuisine we had. lol Following lunch we visited a sight called APOPO which Corey from work had recommended. It was very cool. It is place where trained rats are used to sniff out TNT from land mines and left over bombs from the wars. There are still many live land mines throughout the countryside. The rats find the mines and scratch the ground where there are, so teams of people can go in with metal detectors and remove, detonate and destroy. You can read more about it on YouTube under APOPO hero rats. After the presentation, we got to hold the rat. Never thought that would happen but our rat Glen kinda grew on me. Lol. Once we were finished at the APOPO site our guide took us to downtown Siem Reap for some shopping and for beers “OF COURSE”. LOL Brenda garnet and I found a place where you could get free beers and have foot massages. Wait for it…. By little fish sucking on our feet. Cleaning the dry skin etc. Garnet was not a fan but he gave Brenda and I a great laugh. Bev and Jerald did more shopping. Back to the resort and to another pool to enjoy our Pina coladas. Then supper followed by a walk outside the resort. Another excellent day with so many wonderful things experienced!!
