Our last day in Vietnam before we fly to Cambodia. Can’t believe 2 weeks is gone already. Vietnam did not disappoint! Omg every place we have visited has been absolutely amazing. Every tour we have taken have given us the true Vietnamese culture, and way of life. Today started off with breakfast again and then onto our tour bus at 8 o’clock for a two hour ride north west into the Mekong Delta area. As we rode along on the bus, we passed many orchards of palm trees, banana trees, other fruit trees, and rice fields. It was so cool to see the Vietnamese people out working in the fields. It was like a movie set. Once we arrived at the boat launch, we boarded a long boat and cruised up The Mekong River and into a smaller river, where we transferred to a very small long boat with a Vietnamese lady paddling us past authentic river boat homes. The views were breathtaking and the feeling was so surreal when we thought of where we actually were in the world. It was an unforgettable experience. Then we transferred back to the larger boat to continue our journey. After a true typical lunch of roasted fish with rice and sour soup we visited a handicraft market where they use roots from a river plant to weave baskets, bags, and other gifts. Brenda bought a few things “Of course” lol. That’s an inside joke I’ll explain later. Then we enjoyed some dried rice and coconut pancakes with tea as we listened to some local people sing and perform music for us. We also visited a little authentic candy factory where they made popped rice and sweet chewy candy for us to try. It was all done by hand. Then back aboard our boat to cruise farther up the river and back to the main Mekong river, but the tide was out and we were dragging the prop so the captain had all of us sit out on the very front of the boat. He had to climb into the river 3 times to clean mud off the prop so we could keep floating. Many larger boats were stopped in the middle of the river and made it difficult for us to pass. It was truly quite the experience. Still an adventure and not an ordeal. Back to our tour bus and back to the hotel by 5 pm for supper and happy hour by the pool. After supper we ventured down to the edge of the Saigon river for some pics and to watch the local people. Large boats travel up and down the river with huge screens playing ads and shows in the back ground. Many high rises and hotels with bright lights surround us with scooters filling the streets. Saigon is amazing and Vietnam is an absolutely beautiful country!
